Karl Marx: A Nineteenth-Century Life
For many centuries, Jews had been persecuted throughout Europe, not because of their religion or cultural practices but simply because they had descended from Jewish ancestors. It would have been interesting to know how Sperber would present a simplified version of Marx, a new way of making sense of him in summary.
There was also a letter to Ryazanov by Clara Zetkin, the leading feminist in the pre German social democratic movement and one of the founders of the German Communist Party. The book very clearly outlines the difference between Marx and Marxism [much of which is Englesism].
One of these items ships sooner than the other. They were so hopeful for the revolution, but so convinced that only a significant economic disruption could prompt it to occur, that they constantly hoped for sperner economic news. A Reinterpretation— and it becomes a truly daunting task to add much new content to our view of either man.
Similarly, Sperber observes that Marx had an interest in agricultural chemistry but views this as a marginal hobby. In fact, he goes some way toward pointing out the apparent contradiction between the traditional attitudes Marx had toward family, the role of men kafl fathers and breadwinners, and bourgeois morals and respectability. The failure of this theory to actualize seems to be due to its lack of belief in the creativity of man to invent new industries and to general geographical myopia.
The argument falls flat. This means that almost everything Marx ever wrote, including mundane jonnathan, is now available to the reader.
